Quick Revise

This improves muscle strength and tone.

There are two types of weight training:

1. Isometric

Muscles contract but there is no movement.

e.g. Sit with your back to the wall and your knees bent at 45* and hold it.

Advantages - develops static strength, its quick, cheap and easy to do

Disadvantages – no good if you have a heart problem, as blood flow is reduced to the muscles.

2. Isotonic

Muscles contract and shorten to produce a movement.

e.g. Pull ups

Advantages – easily adaptable to most sports, strengthens the muscle throughout the range of movement

Disadvantages – muscle can become sore due to the stress To overload, use heavier weights, or lift more times.
