The University of Sunderland is dynamic and modern with a growing reputation for teaching and research. We are proud to be the best ‘new’ university in the UK for overall quality, quantity and range of research. We are highly successful in preparing graduates for employment. Official performance indicators show that 92 per cent of full-time first degree students get a job or go on to further study within six months of graduating.

Sunderland has been recognised as offering ‘The best student experience in England’ by a student survey in the Times Higher Education Supplement. Our Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s was recently named one of the top five campuses in the UK with a 'wow' factor.

The City of Sunderland is becoming one of the most thriving in the country, with a buzzing nightlife and a wonderful coastline and countryside. The city offers a great night out and was recently voted best underground music scene in the UK by the NME. There are also many outstanding cultural attractions for those interested in theatre, the arts and local history.

Investment of over £18m during the past year has seen the creation of a state-of-the-art media centre, the launch of The Gateway, a hub for student support, advice and welfare, offering attractive learning space and catering facilities, and the opening of a new science park development, which will help graduates to set up their own businesses.

The next phase will see the multi-million pound development of the City Campus. £11m is being spent to create a state-of-the-art sports and social facility, and to extensively redevelop the Murray Library.
