Careers at National Grid:
As the UK's largest utility business, we can offer you a secure and challenging career and professional skills development. We're actively committed to recruiting and developing new talent and providing an innovative, creative workspace - whatever your career stage.

Apprentices
Our Advanced Apprenticeship programme is an award-winning training programme, it will turn your interest in practical issues into a long-term career, where you'll constantly learn and develop new skills. It can take up to three years to complete - you'll start on £13,000 and leave the programme on £22,000.

You'll do half your learning on the job and half in formal study and training which will take place on residential courses away from home. By the end of the programme you'll be a skilled craftsperson with relevant qualifications, and can look forward to an interesting and rewarding career in our business.

Trainee Engineers
We also run an Engineer Training Programme for students with A-Levels / HNC / BTEC qualifications, where we 'grow our own' engineers, making sure they have the right skills to look after our transmission network both now, and well into the future. It's the ideal way to get a degree, without running up any student debt from university fees.

At the heart of this is a 'core' programme which involves academic study leading towards a Foundation Degree in engineering. While you're studying, you'll be gaining experience on live projects, so that by the time you finish the programme, you'll be ready to start work on some of the biggest and most complex engineering challenges you'll find in any industry.
