Diffusion
Organisms exchange materials with their environment:
- food
- waste
- gases
- heat
All the above diffuse between organism and environment
Rate of Diffusion = surface area x concentration difference

surface area : volume ratio
(volume increases much more than surface area, so as organisms get bigger it becomes harder to exchange)
